I was reading an article on TechCrunch about the new video capabilities of the iPhone 3GS (which I am getting soon), and at the end; the article mentioned Flip Video Camera and how the new iPhone video capabilities will kill the Flip Video.
Well IMHO it is killing the Flip Video right now just after a short period of the release of the iPhone 3GS as YouTube is receiving a thousands of videos from the iPhone “We’re already seeing thousands of uploads from new iPhones” Hunter Walk, the Director of Product Management at YouTube, told TechCrunch.
But why I am talking about it? Well because I am one of the people who was planning to get a Flip video camera but after seeing what iPhone 3GS can do; it is not in my wish list anymore, the main reason for that is that no one like the hassle of transferring the data from your video camera to your computer then upload it even with the exist of feature in Flip like FlipShare which make it easy to share the content directly, but who can beat uploading the video straightly from the device?
Resolution? I think most people don’t care when sharing videos in social website, specially when you need to compress your videos sometimes due to the limitation of the websites or your connection speed, and who wants also to carry an other device beside the phone? at least I am sure the FlipUltra is dead because if someone will prefer Flip Camera over the iPhone, will prefer it perior to its HD recording capibalities which FlipUltra don’t have.
The situation is not that miserable for Flip company “Cisoc Systems”, but considering my situation: I was ready to pay even a 300$ easily for the Flip but a I drawback now because I know I will not use it when I have my iPhone mostly because I don;t have much time to connect the Flip and upload the videos.
BUT in the same time, the extra portability and clarity of the flip cameras, I mean if I was having more free time I would defentilly get a flip to capture most of the things even if I have the 3GS or maybe iPhone 4 because first I don’t want my iPhone battery to be drained because of video only if I likes video recording that much
It is dead simple: 3G+WiFi to upload the video is much easier than connecting + PC to upload
Anyway, I think I would like to have a Flip as a gift to see if I missed something
